Man:MILK for male breastfeeding
April 16, 2007Short description of the design:
Man:MILK for male breastfeeding

How did this design improve life and for whom?:
Buy designing the Man:MILK products I have put the male breastfeeding on the agenda. The Man:MILK products ask questions abut queer, feministic, social, medical and the fathers/male role. The products ask way more questions then I have answers on in, even if I have tried, in so many different professions.
Possible drawbacks of life improvement:
Is the world/society ready for breastfeeding men?
What is the decisive role of the designer/design team in the creation of the nominated design?:
My intention have been to ask questions by design not with art even thou my project is really close to art, is it art or design? I think its design and design can ask as important questions as art.
How did the design aspect help provide coherent whole concerning form, function,
resources, user kindness, aesthetics etc.:
The breastfeeding shirt provides easy and masculine breastfeeding for men. The shirt can also be worn more like a statement, equality between the sexes, If the man choose not to breastfeed his child
The process used to create the design:
I made research in how breastfeeding cloths and breastfeeding pumps for female looked and functioned. Then I improved the design to fit males, it was really important that the design not became unisex because then the products would have became female.I have come across information that it is possible for a man to produce milk. This is made possible because male and female’s milk glands are the same, yet males have less of them. By either using a breastfeeding pump or letting the child suck on the nipples, a man can start to lactate. A man will probably not produce as much milk as a woman therefore their milk functions more as a complement.
Functionallity and use of design:
The breastfeeding pump a man is using if he wants to start to lactate. The breastfeeding shirt is used to make it easier and more masculine to breastfeed. The Man:MILK products can be used everywhere at anytime.
